The Falcon Football Program
hopes that this page will serve as a place to find information important
to both the young student-athlete and their family as they embark on an
incredible journey over the next four years as a Durham Jordan Falcon
Football player and student at one of the top schools in North Carolina!
The Falcon Football Family
is excited to see all of the new faces that step onto the field each new
summer and hope that with each new year there are more young student-athletes
that choose to become a part of the Program.
Young men have joined the Falcon
Football program from throughout the Durham area including all of the
Durham area Middle Schools; although Githens, Lowe's Grove, Roger's Herr
and Shepard are typically the primary feeder programs, there have been
over the years those that have come from Brogden, Carrington, Chewning
and Neal Middle Schools. A number of young men have also joined the program
from the numerous private middle schools throughout the area.
If you have any questions please
feel free to use the various methods of contacting the Football Program
and we'll do our best to get you the information you are requesting!

June 10th - Rising
10th, 11th and 12th Grades (first day for 10-12th)
June 12th - Rising 9th Graders (first day for 9th grade)
June 10, 2008 - 5 PM (Tuesday).
Summer workouts in preparation for the 2008 season begin on Tuesday,
June 10th at 5:00 PM. Remember that you must either have a valid (up-to-date/non-expired)
athletic physical on record at Jordan or bring a current athletic physical
on the first day of workouts. Also, for those new to Jordan, you must
also be officially enrolled at Jordan to physically/actively participate
in the workouts.
Important information about
changes to our Traditional format of summer workouts...Note that this
is only the SECOND year we have moved to this format and this information
is simply a refresher to help all understand the dynamics of how summer
workouts will be conducted:
- If you are a returning player
to Jordan or are in 10th, 11th or 12th grades you will have workouts
on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:30 PM during the MONTH
of JUNE.
- If you are a rising 9th
grader you will have workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00
to 7:30 PM during the MONTH of JUNE. (NOTE - during the first week of
workouts, 9th graders will only meet on Thursday, June 12th and not
Tuesday, June 10th)
- The important difference
to previous years (prior to last year) is that 9th graders will not
have workouts on Mondays or Wednesdays during the MONTH of JUNE.
- DURING JULY - All classes,
9th through 12th will have workouts Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
from 5:00 to 7:30 PM.
- Consult both the June and
July Calendars for additional information.
- Any additional questions
make every effort to speak to one of the coaches.
- Or feel free to email gofalcons.jordan@gmail.com

Summer Workouts
For Incoming Frosh at Durham Jordan Set To Begin
June 12th,
2008. These workouts
will begin on Thursday, June 12th at 5:00 PM. Meet at the rear/athletic
portion of the school at the Football locker rooms. Be sure that your
athletic physical is up-to-date.
IMPORTANT INFO
FOR INCOMING FROSH - MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETES
1. Bring a copy
of your up-to-date athletic physical...Questions about athletic physicals
and whether or not it is up-to-date? Contact the coaching staff.
2. Be sure that
you are enrolled at Jordan or you are in the process of completing the
paperwork for enrollment.
3. Bring cleats
and athletic tennis shoes...athletic clothing.
QUESTIONS
CONCERNING THE ABOVE INFORMATION...TYPICALLY ASKED BY FIRST YEAR ATHLETES
1. What if
I don't have a copy of my physical or it's not up-to-date? Schedule
a physical as soon as possible with your provider. Contact the Falcon
Coaching staff to find out additional information on athletic physicals.
2. If I don't
have a physical should I come out to workouts? YES...although you
will be unable to participate in activities you will (a) get to meet the
coaching staff, (b) the coaching staff will be able to obtain your contact
information, (c) you will be able to watch and therefore learn during
the time that you are waiting to get your physical completed.
3. What if
I'm not officially enrolled yet? This is similar to the physical situation,
you will be unable to participate in events until this is taken care of
through the proper channels. If you will be attending Jordan, but the
enrollment process is still underway you should still come to the workouts
so that you can get to meet the coaching staff, and they are able to obtain
your contact information and can monitor the enrollment process. Again,
you will be unable to participate, although you will be able to meet (a)
the coaches, (b) your future teammates and (c) be able to watch until
you have been officially enrolled.
4. What if
I don't have cleats yet, should I attend? YES...try and purchase cleats
as soon as possible, but if you don't have any or the ones you used during
middle school have fallen apart you should still attend and workout with
tennis shoes until you are able to obtain cleats.
5. Why do I
need both cleats and tennis shoes? RAIN...POOR weather conditions.
If it is raining and storming we will take our workouts inside, you'll
need tennis shoes to workout...not socks!
Summer workouts
will begin just as school is letting out across Durham County. The summer
workouts will be a time for lifting and conditioning for the upcoming
season as well as skill development work to take place. These sessions
are critical for having our young men up to speed as we approach both
our Passing League contests, UNC Passing League and most importantly the
start of the official football season. These workouts will tentatively
run Monday through Thursday each week. If you have any questions concerning
these workouts please contact Head Football Coach, Mike Briggs.
(updated 5/31/2008)

1. Questions
concerning athletic physicals...see
above.
2. Questions
about enrollment...see above.
3. What will
summer workouts be like? Summer workouts will include weightlifting,
agility, speed work and skill development.
4. What if
I've never done any weightlifting before? Not a problem, we have a
number of coaches as well as more senior football players that will help
you first learn how to do a lift properly with a limited amount of weight
and then you will have the foundation to get stronger. Remember...we are
all looking for improvement and working towards a goal. That goal initially
may simply be to practice all of the lifts properly and then from there
once you've gained confidence you can move to more weight. You have four
years and if you work hard throughout you'll see the benefits even if
you come in the first day and have zero knowledge on lifting!
5. When will
I get a locker? This information will be explained at workouts.
6. When will
I get a helmet? This information will be explained at workouts.
7. Will I be
on junior varsity or varsity as a frosh or first year player? This
is a tough question to answer...the easy answer is to say not to worry
about it and simply come out and work hard. Few past Falcons as a freshman
have had the overall athletic ability and knowledge of the game to play
on the varsity as a freshman. The coaches think very seriously about where
you will eventually end up and there are many factors that come into play...two
of the more important factors are (a) need on the varsity squad and (b)
believing that you will have a good opportunity to contribute on the varsity
if you are brought up. In the end, it is about finding the best fit for
the Program and you...in other words, how best can you develop as a Falcon
Football player and ultimately get practice and game experience so that
you are able to most effectively be a TEAM player that helps the TEAM
be successfull!
8. Are the
summer workouts mandatory? If you are to ask the North Carolina High
School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) then the answer would be no...they
are not mandatory. But, just about every high school program in the state
would say that summer workouts are very, very, very important and it is
highly encouraged that you attend as many as you can, if not all of them.
9. Why are
summer workouts important? They are important for a number of different
reasons including the following, although there are many more reasons
as well.
- You will grow physically
by lifting weights
- You will become more athletic/agile
by going through agility work
- You will become faster through
speed development
- You will learn your positions
that you are interested in playing through skill development
- You will begin to learn
offensive plays
- You will begin to learn
the defensive scheme
- You will get to meet the
coaches and staff
- You will get to meet your
teammates and begin to foster the bond so important to being a TEAM
- You will learn about the
summer 7-on-7 competitions at Cummings High School that we go to...and
if you have been working out consistently, you may have the opportunity
to come to one of the competitions
- You will learn about other
passing leagues and camps we may attend
- You will get your helmet
and locker faster
- And many, many, many more
items...
10. What if I can't make
a summer workout because of transportation issues? Call the Falcon
Football office at 919-560-3912 (extension 12244) or call Coach Luck at
919-599-4936 and let us know you are having trouble getting to workouts
(for additional information you can also email gofalcons.jordan@gmail.com).
There is a good possibility that someone may be able to help you out through
car-pooling to get you to workouts. Be a leader and a TEAM player and
if you know you'll have transportation issues, just let someone know so
we can solve the problem.
