Underclassmen
College Recruiting Meeting
February 24th,
2007....Saturday, 6:00 PM. The Falcon football staff will hold an
information session concerning all elements associated with the college
recruiting process on Saturday February 24th at 6 PM in the JHS cafeteria.
This meeting is to supplement earlier meetings that have taken place each
year during the school year with the student-athletes at the conclusion
of the football season. The process can be daunting sometimes due to its
many complexities and the more information you are able to learn from
trusted sources the more stress-free the process will be down the road.
We would ask that you anticipate the meeting to go for no less than one
and a half hours. There will be presentations to start the meeting and
then we will open it up for general questions to follow. We are also hoping
to schedule an additional meeting similar to this first one in the month
of March on a Sunday afternoon. Both meetings are for all underclassmen,
rising seniors, juniors and sophomores with interest in learning about
the college recruiting process. It is highly encouraged that parents or
guardians also attend this meeting and come prepared with questions about
the process. (updated 02/16/07)

Offseason Workouts
are in Session!
January 3rd,
2007....throughout Spring. Offseason workouts are in full session
and all those interested in playing football for the 2007 season that
are not playing another sport should be lifting Monday through
Thursday after school beginning at 2:45 PM. Exceptions to this are those
that need additional assistance in classroom work...see Coach Albright
to inform the coaching staff that you will not be able to attend workouts
on a given day due to working on grades.
Offseason workouts
will include upper and lower body lifting as well as plyometrics, speed
and agility work throughout the spring. This is a crucial element to the
success of the 2007 campaign and you are expected to attend these workouts.
A few notes about
workouts...
(a) Question:
I'm not the most experienced lifter...Answer: Everyone starts out inexperienced
and you must work to become experienced and ultimately stronger. Don't
expect to be lifting huge amounts from the beginning unless you have been
in the weight room a signficant amount. The key to you reaching your goals
are to be consistent first and foremost. Be in workouts Monday through
Thursday and work to improve every day. Start out at an amount of weight
per lift that forces you to push yourself...not too easy, but not impossible
early in your reps. If you have questions ask any of the many coaches
in the weight room for guidance or ask a more senior player. Look around
and see who is lifting and find potentially another player at your position
that is and has done well in his lifting program, ask them for suggestions
and maybe workout with them if they are interested in helping mentor you
along. Don't be afraid to ask for help...once you are secure in yourself
and able to ask for help and then use that help to get better you will
find that it wasn't so bad to ask for the help in the first place as you
see the benefits.
(b) Question:
I notice that certain guys from last year's squad or fellas that said
they are coming out to play in 2007 are not here...Answer: Be a leader
and talk to them in the halls and get them to come out and lift, work
together as a team and encourage them to get out there...in some cases
they may not be lifting because they are simply unfamiliar with the weight
room especially if they have not played before. Understand that and encourage
them to get in their and pound those weights. For those guys that played
last year and are not playing another sport and are doing well in school
and are not making it to workouts...get on them and encourage them to
make it to workouts. In some cases there may be guys that didn't play
a huge amount on either the varsity or junior varsity that are a bit discouraged.
Help them understand that getting into the weight room and getting stronger
is the best thing they can be doing to helping their chances of playing
more in the 2007 season. There are many stories of young men that didn't
play much at all (especially freshmen) their first year, but after spending
an offseason in the weight room came back the following year and were
not only starters, but go-to players...lifting hard in the off-season
was one of the main parts to their success.
(c) Question:
I am playing another sport, but I want to be the best in all of the sports
I'm playing and I want to be physically prepared for football season...Answer:
Find time to lift even if it is not after school due to practice. Don't
make excuses to being the best you can be both academically and athletically...find
time when there is no time. Opportunities to lift could be through workouts
during the day in a class, they could be after school if you have practice
late (given that you have discussed this with your family and are able
to stay on top of your classwork as this is most important). Opportunities
could exist through outside lifting opportunities at your families gym.
Point being...find the time to be the best you can be. (updated

Congratulations
Blaylock and the Florida Gators
January 8th,
2007. Congratulations
to Jordan football alum and current member of the 2006-07 National Championship
Florida Gators, Andrew Blaylock. For those that may have watched the game
you probably saw Andrew a couple of times throughout the game as well
as at the end of the post-game show. I'm sure many of the young Falcons
will be excited to hear about the National Championship game the next
time you are back in Durham. (updated 1/09/2007)

November 17th,
2006...Friday, 7:30 PM Kickoff. The Falcons advanced to the second
round of the NCHSAA state playoffs for the fourth straight season after
defeating Apex 35 to 20 at Claude Currie Stadium in a first round 4AA-East

Falcons Move
Past Apex...JHS 35 - AHS 20
November 10th,
2006. The Falcons defense had a tough challenge this week, take on
a disciplined option attack, and they stepped up to the challenge. The
Falcons defense set the tone as they effectively limited the option attack
of the visiting Cougars enroute to a 35 to 20 first round victory in the
4AA NCHSAA playoffs.
On the defensive
side of the ball Greg Parker (jr.) had his third interception of the year,
while a number of Falcons made numerous tackles as well a forcing a fumble
during the game.
Offensively, the
offensive line paved the way for the running tandem of Jerrell Rhodes
(soph.) and Arthur Affleck (jr.). Senior quarterback Eric Weaver continued
to play efficient football with a 10-12 performance and 3 touchdown strikes
to Antonio Smith (sr.), Arthur Affleck (jr.) and Greg Parker (jr.). Weaver
effectively spread the ball around to tight end Clark Richards (sr.),
Derrick Yancey (sr.) and James Webb (sr.).
The Falcons will
now prepare for a second round match-up with PAC-6 conference rival Durham
Riverside.

JV Falcons Take
Down the JV Tigers
FalconFootball.org
and GoFalcons Experience Downtime
October 22nd,
2006...After some purchases, repairs, assistance from some friends
at Duke and finally a bit of time at home trying to get the networking
back up and going...www.falconfootball.org is back up and running
after about a month and half stint of downtime. My apologies for the downtime,
but the computer I have running the site experienced some catastrophic
failures with the power supply and motherboard. Upon getting both items
fixed, the hard drive experienced a massive failure leading to another
purchase. From there I had to work with some folks and get Linux back
up and running along with Apache for the webserver. And finally work a
bit at home to get the networking going.
So, all that said,
we are back up and running although you'll notice that there have been
almost no updates to the site since the conference season began. Hopefully
within the next week you'll see most of the content updated.
With two games
remaining in the regular season the varsity Falcons are 6-3 overall and
4-1 in conference, tied with both Hillside and Southern Durham although
the Falcons have defeated both the Hornets and Spartans in earlier contests
this year. The JV Falcons are undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and
6-2 overall, also with two conference games remaining.
One further note,
our mailing list GoFalcons@Falconfootball.org is also down as it was also
operating on the same doomed computer. It will take a bit more time for
me to get that up and running as there were a number of customized configuration
files that were lost. All those that were on the main mailing list need
not send me info about mailing addresses as I have a separate file that
has all of that information.
Thanks for your
patience during this process and we all look forward to seeing the stands
filled this Friday evening for Homecoming 2006 as the Falcons return home
to take on the Chapel Hill Tigers in another PAC-6 contest. (updated

JV Falcons Come
Up Short to JV Caps
BHS 14- JHS
6
September 13th,
2006. The Falcons came up short against the Broughton JV Caps on a
wet and soggy field at Claude Currie Stadium in Durham. Neither offense
was especially effective in the inclement conditions that included off-and-on
rain throughout the contest. The Falcon defense stood strong on a number
of occasions including two forced fumbles that were both recovered by
freshman Daryl Reid. Offensively the Falcons put their lone score on the
board as sophomore Torrance Hunt rambled a lengthy margin down the sideline
for a score.
The JV Falcons
will look to get back on the winning track as they travel to Hillside
HS this coming Thursday and begin PAC-6 Conference play. Be sure to make
it out and support the Falcons!! (updated 9/16/2006)

Falcons Soar
Higher than Eagles...JHS 24 - EHS 10
September 8th,
2006. After defeating the Green Hope Falcons a week earlier, the Jordan
Falcons returned home to Claude Currie Stadium to battle the Eagles of
Enloe HS. The Eagles were coming off a tough loss to the Garner Trojans
and looking to rebound on the road. The Eagles using their unique offense
battled hard early on and took an early first quarter 10 to 0 lead, but
the Eagles would see that lead vaporize in the second quarter as the Falcons
responded to head into half time leading 14 to 10. The Falcons would add
10 more points in the second half enroute to a 24 to 10 victory.
The Falcon offense
was highlighted by the performance of senior quarterback Eric Weaver who
connected 14 times for 208 yards through the air and 2 touchdowns. Weaver
also added a rushing score. Leading the receiving effort was senior wideout
Antonio Smith with four receptions for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fellow
senior wide receiver Derrick Yancey had five receptions for an additional
54 yards. Others, including JR Rhodes, Delson McAdams and Clark Richards
also took part in the air attack. On the ground, sophomore JR Rhodes handled
the majority of the load and with his receiving effort ended the day with
close to a 100 yard all purpose day. Juniors Delson McAdams and Arthur
Affleck also added to the rushing total with roughly 80 more yards.
On the defensive
end a number of Falcons flew to the ball and made plays with some bone
crunching hits from senior linebackers Matt Little and Cary Harper. McAdams
also contributed on the defensive end with two interceptions.
On the special
teams front, senior kicker Jay Marko connected on a 32 yard field goal
and was 3 for 3 in PATs.

information on the game you can check out articles at the Durham

JV Falcons Fall
Short Against JV Eagles
EHS 32 - JHS
20
September 7th,
2006. The Falcons travelled to Raleigh striving for win number two
on the 2006 season, but came home disappointed after a fourth quarter
comeback attempt fell short. The Enloe Eagles opened up the scoring and
by half time had a 12 to 0 lead. In the second half strong defensive plays
were the norm on both sides of the ball, yet each offense found ways to
pop the the big play when they needed it. The Falcons attempted to roar
back in the fourth quarter capitalizing on some big plays and an onside
kick recovery. The Jordan offense was paced by the rushing efforts of
sophomore Torrance Hunt who ended the game with over 150 yards rushing
and two scores. Freshman Patrick Brodie and sophomore Brendan Belamie
also combined for nearly an additional one hundred yards rushing. Freshman
D.J. Elliker hooked up with sophomore wide receiver Demario Lewis for
another score.
The JV Falcons
will look to get back on the winning track as they host the JV Caps of
Raleigh Broughton HS this coming Wednesday. Be sure to make it out and
support the Falcons!! (updated 9/11/2006)

August 25th,
2006. The Jordan Falcons took to the air and provided a steady attack
from the ground, while the defense stood strong throughout to preserve
a 24-3 victory against the Green Hope Falcons. Jordan's ground attack
was highlighted by the steady rushing attack of sophomore JR Rhodes who
tallied 141 yards on the evening, while junior Delson McAdams provided
some excitement each time he touched the ball, while talling 56 yards
rushing. Senior quarterback Eric Weaver also added to the rushing total
while also adding a rushing score. Junior Arthur Affleck and Clifton White-Cromartie

JV Falcons Rush
Past Green Hope JV Falcons
JHS 20 - GHHS 0
August 24th, 2006. The
JV Falcons captured their first victory of the 2006 season in their season
opener at home against the visiting JV Falcons of Green Hope High School.
The Falcons posted 20 points to Green Hope's 0 and were paced offensively
behind a strong rushing effort of frosh Patrick Brodie who tallied over
140 yards and 2 rushing scores on the evening. Also contributing to the
rushing effort were freshman David Pickett, Devonte Knox, JJ Chambers,
DJ Elliker and Devin McNeill. The Falcons also picked up a score through
the air as Chambers connected with sophomore Jordan Farrington in the
endzone for an 8 yard score. Sophomore Luis Glean also recorded a reception
on the evening. Helping make the rushing and passing happen was the efforts
of a number of young men along the offensive line.
On the defensive side of the
ball the Falcons were paced by a number of young men including linebackers
David Pickett, sophomore Joderick Arocho and frosh Anthony McMillian.
The defensive front had a number of newcomers assist in the effort including
frosh Troy Pitt and sophomores Kyle Jeffers and Andrew Anderson. Returning
players including sophomores Brandon Leedy and Trevor Wiggins also contributed
along the line. In the defensive secondary, sophomore Eric Eatmon may
have had the big hit of the evening and frosh Patrick Brodie picked off
a pass.

2006...Thursday, 6:00 PM Kickoff. The JV Jordan Falcons are working
hard and their first taste of action for the 2006 season will take place
at home against the Falcons' from Green Hope High School. Last year, in
the first match-up between the two programs the Jordan Falcons' captured
the victory. A number of seasoned veterans of the 2005 JV squad have moved
to varsity and it will be time for a number of newcomers to step into
their shoes and lead the JV Falcons!
We look forward
to seeing the stands packed for this big game at Claude Currie and hope

Falcons Get Set
for 2006 Home Opener...vs. Eastern Randolph
August 18th,
2006...Friday, 7:30 PM Kickoff. That time has come once again where
the Falcons' will take to the field against 3A powerhouse Eastern Randolph
High School. After an offseason that began with the Falcons reaching the
3rd Round of the 4A state playoffs and will culminate with a week of preparation
and the annual FFF summer cook-out it will be time to strap it up and
welcome the visiting Wildcats to Claude Currie Stadium. The Falcons and
Wildcats have met on three prior occasions with the Wildcats currently
holding a 2 games to 1 victory margin.
Two years ago,
the Wildcats traveled to Claude Currie and met a stout Jordan defensive
unit that gave up only one score while current Duke Blue Devil Kinney
Rucker registered the game deciding sack of current Eastern Randolph senior
quarterback Scott Riddle. On the offensive side of the ball, current Florida
Gator Andrew Blaylock connected with wide receiver Brad Savage on a 60
yard plus pass route. The Falcons registered a 9-7 victory in front of
an energized home crowd.
We look forward
to seeing the stands packed for this big game at Claude Currie and hope
that you've rested your vocal cords for Friday evening. Continue to support
your Falcons as they push forward one game at a time!! (updated

Football Cook-Out
Prior to ER Game
August 17th,
2006. The Friends of Falcon Football will be putting on a cook-out
for all those associated with the Falcon Football program this Thursday
after practice. The event will take place in the outside area around the
JHS cafeteria and will move indoors if there is inclement weather. This
will be a great time to get together with parents, student-athletes, relatives
and supporters of the Falcon Football program. It will also be a great
time to learn about the many ways you can help out with the Falcon Football
program if you are interested. (updated 8/13/2006)
Thanks for the
Tasty Watermelon!
August 15th,
2006. The Falcons were surprised on Tuesday night after practice with
a donation of freshly grown watermelons from Mrs. Albert. Many of the
parents involved with Friends of Falcon Football (FFF) came by to help
distribute mouth-watering chunks of delicious watermelon to all of the
young men after the evening's practice. Thanks from all the players and
coaches for the donation of watermelons and time to distribute from those
in FFF. (updated 8/15/2006)
Varsity Falcons
Swoop In on Pigskin Jamboree
August 11th,
2006. The varsity Falcons took to the field for the first time in
2006 at the newly re-created Pigskin Preview/Jamboree at Wake Forest-Rolesville
High School. In previous seasons, this event typically known as the Pigskin
Preview took place at North Carolina State University and showcased around
12 to 16 teams in the RDU area. Due to a number of issues, the event was
initially cancelled and then modified and resurrected to find a home at
the original creator of the event, Coach Earl Smith's current stomping
grounds of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School.
The Falcons' took
to the turf in the opening session against the Bunn Wildcats and the Millbrook
Wildcats. Each session lasted about an hour-a-piece and included both
10 play drives, situational and goal-line situations. Although official
scores were not kept the Falcons' had bright spots on both sides of the
ball. Offensively, senior quarterback Eric Weaver connected with a number
of receivers while showing his ability to make plays on the move. On the
receiving end was senior receiver Antonio Smith who tallied both a chunk
of yardage as well as a TD reception. One of the big hits of the scrimmage
was registered by Falcon newcomer James Webb at the receiver position
as he helped spring a big play. The offensive line helped pave the way
for a slew of running backs that touched the ball on Friday evening. Leading
the way was junior running back Delson McAdams that took a short gain
and turned it into a 30 plus yard TD run, while sophomore JR Rhodes picked
up significant yardage both running the ball as well as catching the ball
for another Jordan TD. A number of other Jordan Falcons participated and
contributed on the offensive side of the ball and everyone looks forward
to seeing them make a difference in the 2006 season.
On the defensive
side of the ball, the senior laden linebacking group of Matt Little, Cary
Harper and Branden Roberts led the defense. The defense came up with a
number of big stops in the back field as sophomore newcomer Dejon Harris
registered one of the sacks on the evening.
Check back in
future days for pictures from the event. You can also visit the Raleigh
News & Observer to see video from the event (note that in the
captions where David Albert is mentioned, due to a change in number prior
to the event, Eric Weaver is the student-athlete in the video). (updated

Special Thanks
to Tennessee Titan Tramain Hall
July 24th,
2006. Special thanks goes out to former NCSU wide receiver and
newly
signed Tennessee Titan Tramain Hall for taking a bit of time out of his
busy summer schedule to stop by the Falcon Football practice fields and
speak to all of the Falcon football players and coaches. Tramain spent
time watching the Falcons practice on Monday and then took some time at
the end of the practice to inspire and provide encouraging words to each
of our Falcons! A number of the Falcons have mentioned how they were inspired
by Tramain's words of wisdom since his visit and many have indicated how
similar his key points were to those of head football coach Mike Briggs.
Tramain will be working out at wide receiver and a special teams specialist
during his rookie season with the Tennessee Titans. Again, we thank Tramain
for taking that time with the Falcon program and wish him immense success
on the professional level as he enters his rookie season with the Tennessee
Titans. (updated 8/10/2006)

Official First
Day of Practice...July 31st, 2006
July 31st,
2006. The first official day of practice is slated for July 31st,
2006. In order for your son to participate in events on schedule, it will
be important that NO DATES are missed once July 31st, 2006 arrives. The
NCHSAA states in clear terms that a certain number of days must be acquired
prior to first contact (ie, the first day of full contact) in order to
participate in contact events, and being able to play in a scrimmage or
first game. This will be monitored closely by the coaching and support
staff. Again, once July 31st, 2006 arrives...it is imperative that everyday
from that point forward is a day where your son is present for practice
in order to be able to take part in activities on schedule.
I would also add,
in order for the TEAM to function to its highest level it is imperative
that all members of the TEAM are present so that come the first day of
contact, all TEAM members are present and able to participate. To acheive
more than what was acheived in the 2005 season will require a total TEAM
effort! (updated 2/15/2006)

Ray was the most recent Falcon alums to stop by and stress the importance
of continuing to work hard academically. Patrick is currently going into

Durham Jordan
Ranked as a Top High School
May 1st, 2006.
Newsweek released a recent ranking list for high schools throughout the
United States. Durham Jordan, according to the ranking system used, ranked
as the 280th high school in the US. Considering that there are approximately
1200 high schools that simply make up the top 5% of the all high schools
in the United States, it's quite an accomplishment. The rankings were
based on a formula that took into account how many Advanced Placement
or IB exams were taken by the entire high school student body compared
to the overall number of seniors graduating at the school. Although it's
tough to gauge/rank schools, this serves as one indicator that supports
the fact that Durham Jordan is providing the opportunity for the young
people of Durham to take high level coursework on the high school level.

Two More Senior
Falcons Complete the Recruiting Voyage
February 8th,
2006. Two additional seniors have decided on where they'll complete
their college education while strapping it up and playing collegiate football.
All-Area and All- Conference
Player of the Year on Defense, Josh Gornto has decided to take his skills
north to Patriot League Bucknell University, a Division I-AA school located
in Pennsylvania. Bucknell prides itself on its athletic programs as they
have won numerous championships. In addition, Bucknell rates as the 27th
top school in the US as well as the 8th top engineering school.
Defensive end Lance Sanders also decided on his college future as he'll
be heading down south to CIAA Division II Fayetteville State University.
The Broncos snatched Lance from a number of other CIAA schools that were
highly interested in his skills on the field.
Jordan plans to
have a second signing day event in the Media center in the coming weeks
as additional seniors make their decisions. Additional information on
those announcements will be posted. (updated 2/08/2006)
Three Senior
Falcons End their Recruiting Journey
February 1st,
2006. Three current seniors in the Falcon Football Program made their
decisions on where they'll be continuing their academic and athletic futures.
The first of February is officially know as National Signing Day, and
although there is typically a ton of hoopla associated with the day, in
general it simply signfies the first day that young men across the nation
are legally allowed to commit to a particular school.
In the case of
the Durham Jordan Falcons, three seniors began the the signing process
at Jordan
in the Media Center after school with an official press conference to
announce their commitments. Offensive lineman Jamie O'Briant committed
to Division II Lenoir-Rhyne while tight end Robert Bumgarner decided to
play in the same conference as O'Briant with Divsion II Presbyterian.
The length of time that these two current Falcons will have to play against
one another may be limited as Presbyterian
will be playing a split Divsion I-AA and Division II schedule this year
as they prepare a jump to the Division I-AA level in a year. Also committing
on Wednesday was big defensive lineman Siddiq Haynes to Division I-AA
powerhouse University of Delaware. The Fightin' Blue Hens are excited
about Haynes arrival and
look forward to him vying for playing time this upcoming summer.
The recruiting
process continues for a number of our other seniors and we'll update you
as new information becomes available. For more information about these
signings please read the following article by the Durham
Herald-Sun. In addition, if you are interested in seeing a video feed
from the signing day event you can check out the following video from

Falcons Headin'
to 3rd Round...vs. Lee County
4A-East #8 Lee
County @ 4A-East #4 Jordan
November 25th,
2005...Friday, 7:30 PM Kickoff. The Falcons took one more step closer
to reaching the goal of each high school football program that starts
official practice back in late July to early August...the state championship.
For just the second time in school history and the second time in five
years the Falcons will be heading to the 3rd round of the playoffs.
The much talked
about 2000 team was the only other team in school history to reach the
3rd round and as a #5 seed travelled to Hope Mills to take on a solid
South View team. Although the Falcons went on to fall short in that game
the 2000 team set a standard for future Jordan faithful. After two consecutive
years of reaching the 2nd round of the state playoffs (2003 and 2004)
the 2005 squad has pushed one step further and will be taking on the #8
seed Lee County Yellow Jackets. The last time that Jordan and Lee met
was ironically, back in 2000 in the first round of the state 4A playoffs
as the Yellow Jackets travelled to Jordan for a first round match-up.
The Falcons took that contest 14-0 and moved on to face the Millbrook
Wildcats in the second round.
We look forward
to seeing the stands packed for this big game at Claude Currie and hope
that you've rested your vocal cords for Friday evening. Be sure to not

November 18th,

Falcons are from another conference, namely the Two-Rivers out of Fayetteville.
For the second week of the playoffs the Falcons will have anothere Fayetteville
team make the trek to Claude Currie Stadium. This week's opponent will
be the Golden Bulls of EE Smith H.S. The Golden Bulls defeated Fayetteville
Pine Forest last week to move to the second round while the Falcons defeated
Fayetteville Terry Sanford. This will be the second 4/5 matchup that the
Falcons have been involved in during the playoffs. The other meeting occurred
in the 2000 playoffs as the Falcons came in as the #5 seed and travelled
to Millbrook H.S. the #4 seed. In an exciting game the Falcons defeated
the Wildcats on a game winning field goal by place kicker Devin Ryan.
This time around the #5 seed will have to make the trip to Claude Currie

Falcons Take
Down Bulldogs...JHS 17, TSHS 14
November 11th,
2005. In a tough battle of two physical teams the Falcons' soared
high at the end and captured a first round playoff victory in the final
minute of regulation. The Fayetteville Terry Sanford Bulldogs came to
town on a mission and after scoring on their first possession it was clear
that the Bulldogs would be content with nothing less than stealing a victory
from the hometown Falcons. On the ensuing drive, the Falcons' offense
responded as senior quarterback Andrew Blaylock hooked up with senior
wide receiver Thomas Shaffer for a 36 yard touchdown strike. The Bulldogs
continued to battle and after a blocked punt scored to make the score
14-7 Bulldogs. The Falcons responded as the half came to an end as junior
place kicker Jay Marko nailed a 37 yard field goal to give a halftime
score of 14-10.
In the second
half the stingy Falcon defense came to play limiting the Bulldogs on the
ground and through the air. The Falcons' offense moved the ball, but not
enough to get into scoring position. With time running out and after a
scoreless 3rd quarter, the Falcons took over deep in their own territory
with 3:56 remaining. Led by senior quarterback Andrew Blaylock they marched
down the field, hitting junior wide receiver Eric Weaver and Thomas Shaffer
on keys plays to move the ball. Blaylock also took to the ground seeing
no one open down field. Eventually the Falcons found themselves at the
Bulldog 11 yard line with a first down. With a minute remaining, the Falcon
offense was on the 4 yard line with a 4th and 3 situation. Blaylock took
the snap from center Josh Dorfman and rolled to his left looking into
the endzone, with no one open, he cut up field behind the blocks of senior
running back Bruce Rosell and senior offensive tackle Jamie O'Briant and
found himself five yards into the endzone for the go-ahead score.
On the ensuing
Bulldog drive, junior linebacker Matt Little adjusted to the Bulldogs
quarterback throw back play and picked off the running back's throw to
seal the victory and push the Falcons into the second round for the third
straight year.
For more information
about the game you can visit the Fayetteville Observer, the Durham
Herald Sun or the Raleigh News & Observer. The Falcons will play
another Two-Rivers opponent this coming Friday as they have at least one
more home game against EE Smith H.S. Be out there and support your Jordan
Falcons!!! (updated 11/13/2005)
Varsity Falcons
Head to 4A Playoffs...vs. Terry Sanford
4A-East #13 Fayetteville
Terry Sanford @ 4A-East #4 Jordan
November 11th,
2005...Friday, 7:30 PM Kickoff. The Varsity Falcons concluded the
regular season on a five game winning streak after defeating the Northern
Durham Knights on the road with a 28-14 victory and securing a #2 finish
in the PAC-6 and the automatic playoff berth that accompanies a 1st, 2nd
or 3rd place finish. The NCHSAA announced playoff pairings on Saturday
evening and the result of those pairings is that the Varsity Falcons were
awarded a #4 seed in the 4A-East bracket. Their opening round opponent
will be Fayetteville Terry Sanford who ended the regular season on Friday
with a loss to conference rival Pine Forest. The Terry Sanford Bulldogs
come from the Two-Rivers conference that also includes Cape Fear, Purnell
Swett, South View, Pine Forest, Westover and EE Smith.
This will be the
third playoff game in school history that has been hosted at Jordan HS.
All three games have been hosted by either Coach Rick Brown (1998-2000)
or current Coach Mike Briggs (2001-). In 2000, the Falcons hosted the
Lee County Hornets, while in 2003 the Falcons hosted the East Wake Warriors.
The #4 seed also marks the highest seed awarded to a Jordan Falcon Football
team in school history as the prior high seed was the 2000 team (12-2)
as a #5 seed. This marks the 6th playoff appearance for the Falcons in
school history and 5th appearance since 2000. Prior to Coach Rick Brown
taking over in 1998 the Falcons had ventured to the playoffs only once.
Under Coach Brown the Falcons went to the playoffs in 2000 and under current
head coach Mike Briggs the Falcons have made the playoffs 4 out of his
5 seasons, including 4 years in a row. The Falcons look forward to seeing
the home stands packed this Friday evening as they work hard to capture
win #9. Go Falcons!! (updated 11/07/2005)

MNF - Mud Bowl II - Jordan
Takes the Rematch...JHS 27 - RHS 21
October 10th, 2005.
On a muddy field, expected, as it was Riverside HS, two titans took to
the field with only one granted the allowance of victory. Both big plays
and methodical execution reigned on a drizzling and dreary evening in
Linny Wren Stadium. The Pirates at 2-0 in conference were battling to
keep pace and a first place tie with Southern, while the Falcons were
looking to rebound after last week's loss in the final minutes to Southern
and climb back to one game behind the Spartans. With crater size holes
of mud and water the Falcons took to the field first and on their second
drive of the evening broke
loose on one of the first big plays of the evening. Freshman running back
Jerrell "JR" Rhodes tenderly took the sideline and then accelerated
North and South past two Pirate defenders in route to a 65 yard TD scamper
and an early 7-0 Jordan lead. Shortly thereafter, the Falcons instituted
a methodical pounding on the Pirates, moving the ball down the field and
capping it off with a pass from senior quarterback Andrew Blaylock to
senior running back Steven Thornton.
For those that know a Riverside
and Jordan match-up, it was clear the battle had just begun. Riverside
responded as wide receiver and Wake Forest recruit Marhsall Williams pulled
in a pass that positioned the ball in striking distance for big Weslye
Saunders who a few plays later punched it in to cut the lead in half.
The Pirates weren't done, and shortly before the half expired, Williams
took another pass the distance to secure an even ball-game prior to the
half. (Picture taken by Bernard Thomas of the Durham Herald Sun)
The second half saw the defenses
dominate, but again, for a drive the Falcon offense pounded the Pirate
defense. Thornton pushed in from around the 1 yard line to put the Falcons
up 20-14. The Pirates responded with their own drive and capped it off
with a touchdown from running back Tyshawn Mitchell.
Score 21-20 Pirates...a stoppage
by both the Pirate and then Falcon defenses left just around a minute
on the clock in the fourth quarter. The Pirates punted and sophomore Delson
McAdams awaited the kick. McAdams had dominated as a freshman on the JV
level, playing head and shoulders above the crowd, especially on special
teams, but his time had not come to date on the varsity to make the play
he is so capable of making.
His time had come...The punt
was deep and McAdams had to race as though he was catching a pass, heading
in a direction opposite to the endzone he knew was his goal. After a flawless
snag he planted and turned up the field to his right, Wake recruit Marshall
Williams with 4.3 speed was approaching from McAdams left and surely had
the speed and experience to take down the sophomore. But it wasn't to
be as senior safety Josh Gornto entered frame center, as in the center
of William's torso, and completely obliterated him. The return was on!
And as with anything concerning
this great game of football...it was about team, not the individual that
made it happen. First it was the catch by McAdams, then the perfect take
out by Gornto. McAdams scurried up the right side of the field towards
midfield after catching the ball at the Jordan 15. As he negotiated the
muddy swamp and Pirate defenders, Falcons swooped down on his left and
right systematically taking one, then two and three and so on of Pirates
out of the play. Junior linebacker Cary Harper was one of 10 Falcons on
the field that made their block and completely obliterated the Pirate
punt team.
As McAdams reached mid-field
he was far right and running out of turf, it was here that the skills
that were shown so often at the JV level matriculated to a faster level;
the varsity, the Friday Night Football, under the lights level. Out of
the corner of his eye, there was light and reaction took over, he cut
hard on the swamp to his left, leaving the relative safety of the Falcon
sideline, and began to bolt all the way across the field heading towards
the Pirate sidelines, only he knew that here it was 11 against 11, those
on the field would decide this game...and the Pirates standing on the
sideline would be of no help to the 11 Pirates that were being systematically
picked off by the Falcon return team.
"One block, I just need
one block" as he began to accelerate down the Pirate sideline, could
be heard throughout the Falcon sidelines and stands from the young McAdams.
No, it wasn't audible to anyone, just those that saw the play developing.
The Pirate punter would be Riverside's last hope and as had been set in
motion on the first seconds of the play with the block on Williams, so
it would be as this play concluded, another sophomore, Andrew Reid raced
as hard as he could up alongside the punter, making sure to get in front
and simply slow his movement towards the speeding McAdams. Although this
block wasn't as crushing as the earlier blocks it was just as effective
and with the Pirate punt team neutralized by 10 Falcons, McAdams completed
a dazzling North-South, East-West romp to the endzone. Score JHS 27-RHS
21. What a game...a great job by both teams!

Durham-Herald Sun or Raleigh

Vikings and Githens' Raiders. Over the past four years the game, or the

play under the lights at Jordan H.S. This year's game was no exception
as the two teams battled to the end with the Vikings coming out on top

and were highlighted by performances from Githens' David Pickett, Patrick

Falcons Fall
to Southern in Shoot-Out...JHS 33 - SDHS 40
September 30th,
2005. If they had ESPN Instant Classics for high school football,
this one may have very well been playing a few days later. As always,
a Jordan - Southern Clash on the gridiron proved to be nothing less than
dynamic and exciting to the end. Both teams entered the game with 1-0
marks in conference and the Falcons were looking to march to first in
conference while the Spartans were looking to continue their regular season
winning streak stretching the past two seasons.
The Spartans jumped
out to an early lead thanks to both the air and ground game on their opening
drive to make it 6-0. After a three-and-out by the Falcon offense the
Spartans came down the field again to make it 12-0. On the ensuing Falcon
drive a turnover gave the ball to the Spartans in Falcon territory and
before long Southern had darted to a 18-0 lead. Things didn't improve
for the Falcons on the following kickoff as another turnover gave the
ball to the Spartans and before you could blink the Spartans had struck
once again taking the lead to 25-0. And then...the Classic was born...
The Falcons took
the following drive and with a mix of play-action and a punishing running
attack drove the ball down the field and punched it in on a run by senior
running back Steven Thornton. On the following Spartan drive the ball
squirted out and before big ole' Carl Johnson could put his arms on his
hips, sophomore safety Andrew Reid had scooped and was headin' for the
scorin' part for a 41 yard fumble recovery return for a TD. The Falcon
defense held strong on the following drive and got the ball back for the
Falcon offense that again punished the Spartan defense on the ground and
ended the drive with another touchdown run by running back Steven Thornton.
Heading into the half the game stood at Southern 25, Jordan 20.
The Falcons received
the second half kickoff and continued where they left-off in the first
half taking the ball down the field in a methodical fashion that ended
in a touchdown plunge from freshman running back JR Rhodes. The score
stood at 26-25 Jordan for a few more series on both sides as each teams
defense thwarted the others' offense.
The Spartans were
the next to strike and took back the lead 33-26. The Falcons responded
and on a fourth down conversion JR Rhodes hit senior wide receiver Thomas
Shaffer for 21 yards and the tying score. With time winding down in the
fourth quarter the Spartans drove the field and pushed it in to go back
on top 40-33. The Falcons offense took the field with just over 2 minutes
remaining and under the throwing of senior quarterback Andrew Blaylock
and the blocking of the offensive line pushed the ball down to the Spartan
7 yard line with seconds remaining. With no timeouts remaining, the Falcons
were unable to connect on the following three plays and the Spartans escaped
Claude Currie Stadium with the 40-33 victory. On offense the Falcons'
offense and quarterback Andrew Blaylock ended the game with over a 100
yards passing while the running game was paced by senior Steven Thornton
with 92 yards and freshman JR Rhodes with 61 yards. Senior wide receiver
Thomas Shaffer pulled in over 60 yards in receptions and 1 touchdown reception.
The Falcons will
look to get back on track as they'll battle Durham Riverside at Riverside
this upcoming Friday evening. For further details on the Jordan - Southern
matchup visit the Durham
Herald-Sun or Raleigh
News & Observer. (updated 10/01/2005)
Falcons Take
Advantage of Mistakes...JV JHS 22 - JV SDHS 14
September 29th,
2005. The JV Falcons took advantage of mistakes in the JV Spartan
kicking game and seized their fifth victory of the 2005 season while adding
to their 15 game winning streak. The Falcons defense came up big with
four interceptions including two by sophomore cornerback Arthur Affleck,
one of which ended the game, one by sophomore linebacker/safety Steele
Myers, and one by freshman linebacker Vincent Brown. A fifth interception
by freshman cornerback Torrance Hunt that was run back 30 plus yards for
a touchdown was called back on a roughing the quarterback call. On special
teams the Falcon punt return team and freshman defensive end Tyshawn Shular
recovered a misplayed snap from the Spartan punt team on the Spartan 4
yard line. Shortly thereafter, the Falcon offense struck with a 3 yard
TD plunge by sophomore running back Steele Myers. The Falcons freshman
quarterback Phillip Love hit freshman tight end Gabe Hatch in the endzone
for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
The Falcon defense
came up big once again as sophomore linebacker/safety Corey Scott tipped
a pass by the Spartan quarterback that was then intercepted by freshman
linebacker Vincent Brown on the Spartan 16 yard line. Within seconds,
the Rocket Arthur Affleck shot through the Spartan defense for a 16 yard
scamper. Later in the fourth quarter Affleck came up with his first interception
of the evening and returned the ball to the Spartan 8 yard line. Affleck
made it into the endzone a few plays later and then converted the two
point conversion to give the JV Falcons a 22-14 victory. Great job to
all of the young JV Falcons! (updated 10/01/2005)

September 23rd,
2005. At a packed house in Durham, the Jordan Falcons got a supercharged
effort from the defense and before the Falcon offense took the field the
Hornets were already trailing 7-0. Junior linebacker Matt Little stepped
in front of a Hillside pass and accelerated 61 yards for a TD return.
On the following drive the Falcons' offense took to the air as senior
quarterback Andrew Blaylock connected early and often with senior wide
receiver Thomas Shaffer and the drive culminated on a 25 yard strike from
Blaylock to Shaffer to extend the lead to 14-0. The Jordan defense continued
to stand strong throughout the rest of the game, either scoring or setting
the Jordan offense up with a short field. Junior linebacker Cary Harper
jumped into the scoring with his own interception and touchdown return.
Sophomore running back Delson McAdams also added a score on the ground
as did senior running back Bruce Rosell to end the game. Junior cornerback
Roy Powell came up with a third interception on the evening for the Falcon

out all of the stops and came up with a game winning pass as time expired
to tie the ballgame at 26 a piece. The ensuing extra point was good and
the Caps left Durham with the victory.
The Falcons were
paced on the defense side of the ball with a stout run defense that allowed
minus 9 yards rushing while sophomore cornerback Delson McAdams was in
the right place to snag two interceptions. Offensively, the Falcons rushed
for over 200 yards, paced by senior running back Steven Thornton with

or air. Sophomore defender Steele Myers had two interceptions to pace

and offensively both on the ground and in the air. The first score of
the game came on a blocked punt by senior Thomas Shaffer who scooped and
scored after the block. The Falcon offense struck shortly thereafter with

Thomas Shaffer.
In the second
half the Green Hope Falcons responded with a fake punt for a score and
a trick pass play that set-up a one yard score. The Falcon offense responded
with two solid drives that were capped off by a field goal by Jay Marko
and rushing touchdown from senior running back Steven Thornton.
The offense was
paced by quarterback Andrew Blaylock and a 9 for 15 performance with 138
yards through the air. Steven Thornton kept the running game on track
behind the Falcon offensive line with 118 rushing yards. Thomas Shaffer
ended the game with the receiving high of 66 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive
side of the ball the defensive unit shut down the Green Hope offense allowing
one long play on a trick pass play, but otherwise stuffing the Green Hope
offense at the line or putting pressure on the Falcon quarterbacks. Sophomore
safety Andrew Reid ended the game with an interception. For additional

August 25th,
2005. It took a little time for the JHS Falcons to get rolling but
when it was all said and done they triumphed 22-0 over cross-town foe
Green Hope. The JV Falcons traveled for the first time to Green Hope H.S.
to take on the Falcon JV squad. The first scoring drive of the night saw
sophomore quarterback Renard Edwards hit sophomore wide receiver CJ Starkey
on a long bomb heading to the scoreboard end of the field. Shortly there
after Edwards took it in for the first score of the evening.
Sophomore running
back Arthur Affleck exploded in the second half on the Green Hope defense
running to the outside and inside, including both a short score after
a sustained drive and a break-away run late in the fourth quarter. Sophomore
running back David Albert and sophomore tight end Josh Haas added two
subsequent two point conversions to end the scoring.
On defense, a
number of Falcons stepped up, including interceptions by sophomores David
Albert and Darryl Kinch. A few of the tackles for loss were registered

Gold Card Fundraiser...Cards
have been Distributed!
August 22nd,
2005. The Falcon Gold Cards have been distributed and are currently
on sale. It is important that our student athletes sell the cards that
have been given to them, which at the moment as of Monday evening's practice
was 17 cards per student athlete. This is our primary fundraiser of the
year and it is imperative that each student athlete attempt to sell at
the minimum 17 cards. Each card is $10 a piece and has a number of savings
that may be used an unlimited number of times throughout the next year.
In particular, one of the savings is for $10.00 off any $50.00 purchase
at Dick's Sporting Goods. One purchase at Dick's for new tennis shoes
will immediately make back the cost of the card, in one visit!!
What if each Falcon
Football player solid simply the cards they've been given already? Each
Falcon football player has been given 17 cards and we have approximately
105 Falcon Football players. With each card at $10 a piece and half of
the proceeds going to the football program while the other half goes to
the folks that run the promotion. If a single football player sells all
of his 17 cards he'll raise $170.00 or $85.00 for the Falcon Football
Program. Now if all 105 football players sell their 17 cards as a team
they'll raise $8,925.00!!!! That's right, almost $9,000.00 for the Falcon
Football Program! Every cent of that fundraiser goes directly to the Falcon
Football Program and no where else...it is to be used solely for the needs
of the Falcon Football Program. If everyone takes their part...just 17
cards for each student athlete!!, just 17 cards, we will raise almost
$9,000.00 for the program. To add to that, that total is before the blitz
next Thursday night where we ask all of our student athletes to go out
in groups and try to sell additional cards. Folks, we can reach the $10,000
dollar goal if everyone takes a part and encourages and helps our student
athletes sell their Falcon Gold Cards!! (updated 08/23/2005)

All of the preparation
is over...nothing left except for suiting up and heading to WildCat Country...Falcons
vs. Wildcats...the Grudge Match...

The Falcons traveled
to Randolph County two years ago to battle the Wildcats for the first
time in school history. The Wildcats jumped out early and didn't relinquish
their lead. During the 2004 season, the Falcons evened the board with
a gritty 9-7 home victory highlighted by a touchdown pass from Andrew
Blaylock to wide receiver Brad Savage. The Wildcats responded and then
in the second half the Falcon Defense stood tall and collapsed on Wildcat
quarterback Scott Riddle in the endzone for a safety.
Directions to
Eastern Randolph H.S. are fairly straightforward...From Jordan H.S. proceed
on HWY 54 towards Chapel Hill and turn onto 15-501. Continue on 15-501
south towards Carrboro/Pittsboro. Take the NC-86 N/ US-15 S/ US-501 S
ramp to Chapel Hill/Pittsboro. Turn left at S. Columbia Street. Now continue

May 2005.
Running back Steven Matthews will take to the field and classroom next
year in the state of Virginia, following defensive back Rodney Nelson
and 2004 graduate Kyle Wiggins to Randolph-Macon College (RMC). The coaches
at RMC are excited to be bringing Steven into the fold as they look to
utilize his skills extensively at the fullback position. Steven had one
of his best seasons last year at Jordan, enduring a leg injury that sidelined
him for a number of games, yet still rushing for his career high and serving
a crucial role has one of Jordan's dominant blocking backs. Good Luck
Steven and the staff and Falcon Football Family wishes you the best of
luck on the next level!

Lift-a-Thon...Lift to Earn Money for Team Camp...!!!
May 9th and
10th, 2005. For the third year, the Falcons will have a lift-a-thon
with the sole aim of raising funds to help offset the cost of UNC Team
Camp. Each Falcon Football player will be given a lift-a-thon sign-up
sheet and be asked to secure pledges/donations based on how much the young
man can bench press on either the 9th or 10th. All funds secured through
this event will go directly towards offsetting the cost of that student-athletes'
cost for UNC Team Camp.
The Lift-a-Thon
will take place after school on the 9th and 10th of May in the Football
weight room. Each player participating will be able to bench with the
purpose being to attain a maximum rep. This value will be recorded on
their lift-a-thon sheet in order to verify the rep.
If you are unable
to make the 9th or 10th, please speak with one of the coaches about a
possible make-up date. (updated 05/08/2005)

Congratulations
to Eric Bennett and Kevin Holway
April 17th,
2005. Congratulations to Eric Bennett as he will be attending Ohio
Northern University to pursue a degree in engineering while also playing
football. Ohio Northern University is a Division III program and under
NCAA regulations is unable to offer athletic scholarships. In order to
assist in fielding a football team on the D-III level, the schools are
allowed to provide financial assistance through academic and a variety
of other named grants and financial means. The coaching staff is happy
to see that through Eric's hard work both on the field of play and in
the classroom he'll be receiving a financial aid package to assist him
in pursuing both his love of football as well as his desire to continue
to learn in the classroom.
Congratulations
also goes out to Kevin Holway for his nomination, acceptance and appointment
to the United States Air Force Academy. Appointment to the US Air Force
Academy includes an all expense paid education at one of the top universities
in the nation. Congratulations and best of luck to both Eric and Kevin
at the next level. (updated 04/17/2005)

Duke Head Football
Coach Ted Roof Speaks at Banquet
The awards/program
portion of the banquet began with a keynote speech by the Head Football
Coach at Duke University, Coach Ted Roof. Coach Roof mixed humor with
powerful messages directed at both the young men in the Jordan program
as well as all of us that serve as mentors and in a support role for the
program. The Falcon program was extremely grateful for Coach Roof to take
time out of his coaching duties at Duke to spend a night with the Falcons!
Head Football
Coach Mike Briggs reviewed the 2004 season which saw the varsity reach
the second round of the playoffs for the second year in a row, the first
time in school history, and highlighted the junior varsity that for the
first time in school history finished the season undefeated at 9-0 and
3-0 in conference.
Those that devote
their time and energy throughout the season as volunteers with the Friends
of Falcon Football were honored as well as the many school related support
staff members. In particular, four individuals were honored above and
beyond for their dedication to the program, they included Jay Dorfman,
Bob Gornto, Cleve Robertson and Brent Blaylock. Thank you for all that
you do!
The Friends of
Falcon Football also honored John Sluck from the local Maggiano's Restaurant
located at SouthPoint Mall. Mr. Sluck was given a varsity team picture,
signed by the team as well as a Falcon jersey with his name and high school
number on it in appreciation for his support of the Falcon program as
well as opening up his restaurant this past fall for a banquet. We'd also
like to thank Mr. Sluck for providing gift certificates for both the sign-up
drawing as well as for some of our Friends of Falcon Football awards.
Diane Albert spoke
briefly on the Friends of Falcon Football support group and encouraged
all to become involved in helping make this program the best in the state
for helping our young men grow both academically and athletically.
Awards were given
out for both the junior varsity and varsity team and will be listed in
the future...please check back on a list of award winners.
The seniors were
honored at the end of the banquet with our helmet plaques. Twenty-three
seniors will depart from the Jordan Falcon Football program this year
and we wish each of them the best in all of their future endeavors. They
will each be missed greatly and remembered always for the hard work they
put into helping make the Falcon Football program better today than yesterday!

varsity football team are participants in the Academy, including Affleck
pictured in his history class with teacher Andrew Dunkle. To learn more
about how the Falcon Football Program is working to help develop the most

Shines in 2004 Shrine Bowl, SC 35 NC 21
If you didn't
know any better...you might have thought you saw Julius Peppers at the
2004 Shrine Bowl. Instead, it was Jordan's Kinney Rucker, rushing the
South Carolina quarterback and then pulling down an interception near
the line of scrimmage and proceeding to ramble a few yards before looking
to one of his North Carolina teammates for a lateral to gain an additional
few yards. Rucker also contributed on special teams with a bone-crushing
block on a kick-off return that sent the North Carolina stands into a
frenzied roar. Additional information concerning the game as well as insight

2004 Campaign Comes to an End, JBHS 13 JHS 7
A tough fought battle could
have only one official victor to move on to the third round of the playoffs,
and on this night, it was the Buccaneers of Jack Britt High School. Both
the Buccaneers and Falcons kept to the ground for most of the night with
Buccaneer running back Brandon Myrick carrying for 140 yards while Shequan
Wiggins led the Jordan running attack with 75 yards (1 TD) and was accompanied
by the effort of Antwaune Mims, Steven Matthews and Steven Thornton. The
defenses on both sides lived up to their billing as the final score was
almost exactly on target with season long team statistics, Jordan with
approximately 14 allowed per game while the Britt defense has yielded
about 8.5 per game. Read more about the game at the Durham

Fall
Sports Awards Night
The traditional fall sports
awards night took place this evening at Jordan High School and awards
were presented for a few of our football student athletes. As mentioned
both at the event this evening and here on the website, there will be
a more formal banquet after the new year, similar in fashion to last years
event where we will be able to recognize more of our young men as well
as the many others that assist in making the Falcon experience so special.
This evening, head junior varsity
coach Chris Starkey presented the Most Valuable Player award to Delson
McAdams, the Offensive MVP award to Antonio Smith and the Defensive MVP
award to Brandon Roberts.
Head Football Coach Mike Briggs
presented the Golden Helmet award to Kinney Rucker, the Offensive MVP
award to Shequan Wiggins and the Defensive MVP award to Johari Wiggins.
Finally, we'd like to thank
Mrs. Bumgarner, Mrs. Richards, Mrs. Castellow, Mrs. Rosell, the Howards,
Blaylocks, Gorntos and all others that assisted in setting up the cafeteria
for the event (if there is someone that I didn't notice and recognize,
please forgive me). Thanks for your support!! (updated

Falcons
Punch Ticket to Second Round, JHS 38 N. Forsyth 20
Neither rain, nor mud, nor
any other conditions would hold back the Falcons on Friday evening in
Forsyth county. From the first drive of the evening where the Falcon offense
drove the length of the field and Antwaune Mims punched it in, while chewing
up 8 minutes of clock; to the final defensive play of the evening when
cornerback Rodney Nelson brought in his second interception of the evening,
the Falcons were determined to start the new season off 1-0! The Falcons
accomplished their first goal of the new season by defeating North Forsyth,
38 to 20, now they'll set their focus on a trip to Fayetteville and Cumberland
County and a match-up with Jack Britt High School of the MidSoutheastern
conference. Other than three significant plays by the Vikings of North
Forsyth, the defense held strong allowing only 187 yards total offense.
The defense added one score to the evening with a fumble recovery by Kinney
Rucker in the second half which made the score 31 - 20. Special teams
also came through in many occasions on the evening with placekicker Zach
Gornto connecting on three field goals while hitting all of his extra
points. The punt return team also played with intensity as they blocked
three punts, including one they returned for a touchdown. Offensively,
the Falcons were steadied by senior running back Shequan Wiggins who ended
the evening with 88 yards. Three others contributed heavily to the Falcon
ground attack including seniors Steven Matthews and Antwaune Mims (1 TD),
and junior Steven Thornton (1 TD). Quarterback Eric Weaver connected with
four different receivers throughout the evening in key situations, including
Brad Savage, Branden Reid, Steven Matthews and tight end Thomas Philips.

Falcons
Win Overtime Thriller, JHS 17 PHS 16
The Falcons had a tough October
after starting the season 5-1, but all that changed at the end of the
first overtime in Person County when an extra point went wide left. After
a back and forth game in the first four quarters of action, the teams
took to settling their final conference game of the season through the
regulated overtime session. The Falcons had the first opportunity to score
and on third and goal, quarterback Eric Weaver connected with wideout
Branden Reid in the corner of the endzone for the score. Placekicker Zach
Gornto came in and kept himself perfect, going two for two on extra points
while also adding a crucial field goal earlier in the game that tied the
score at 10 apiece. The Rockets then took over and on third and goal from
the one had quarterback Robbie Byrd plunge through the line for six points.
Person's placekicker then came to the line to send the game into a second
overtime and in a slow motion moment the kick strayed wide left and with
that the Falcons picked up win number six as well as a conference victory.
The bulk of the game was dominated primarily by both teams running attacks
as the Rockets were led by LeRon Thomas and the Falcons were steadied
by senior running back Shequan Wiggins and his contribution of 104 yards
and one touchdown. The Falcons learned on Saturday that they will be traveling
to North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem to challenge the Vikings
in the first round of the 4A playoffs. Read more about the game at the

Undefeated!!
Falcon JV Stifles Person Rockets, JHS 35 PHS 0
With one game remaining on
the young Falcons's season, the taste of an undefeated season, a first
in Falcon JV history was only 48 minutes away. The Falcons' came out strong
and led by a stifling defensive attack the Rockets had just about zero
chance of victory. The defense shut down the running and passing attack
of the Rockets while cornerback Arthur Affleck stepped in front of a Rocket
pass and returned it for a Falcon score. Free safety Andrew Reid also
enjoyed the night by picking up a Rocket fumble and scampering for a second
defensive score. On the other side of the ball, the Falcons' eliminated
any doubt in the outcome by striking both on the ground and through the
air. Quarterback Renard Edwards played a part in all three Falcon offensive
scores, taking the first two scores on the option keeper and lobbing a
pass to a wide-open Antonio Smith for an aerial score. The Falcons completed
the season 3-0 in conference and 9-0 overall. The JV Falcons will be having
a get-together on November 20th. Information concerning this event was
passed out by Mr. Roberts. If you have not heard about this event and
need information, please contact Mr. Roberts or Head JV Coach Chris Starkey.

Trojans
Exact Revenge for Last Year, GSHS 35 JHS 10
The Garner Trojans came to
town with a number of to-dos on their list and as the dust settled on
Claude Currie Stadium Friday evening it was clear that they had accomplished
the majority of them. After a heated game last October in Garner, where
the Falcons defeated the Trojans 21-7 and effectively stripped them of
any chance of a top seed in the 4AA playoffs, the Trojans have been focused
on visiting the Falcons for a rematch. Both teams found themselves in
very similar situations Friday night, but the outcome was different this
go-around. The Trojans found success primarily through the air as they
connected on a few big plays. The Jordan defense shut down the Garner
ground attack allowing less than 100 yards. The Falcon offense ended with
over 100 yards both rushing and passing, but was only able to reach the
redzone on three occasions, ending in a field goal and touchdown. The
Falcons will move back into conference play this week and face their final
regular season opponent of the year, the Person Rockets, and look to finish
strong with a victory to strenghten their playoff consideration. The Rockets
are coming off a conference victory over Chapel Hill and will be looking
try and secure a share of the conference title. Read more about the game

Seconds and Concentration, JHS 39 GSHS 35
The JV Falcons made the potentially
impossible, possible and as a result came home from Garner, NC with an
out of conference victory against a tough Garner JV squad. With less than
a minute to play the Trojans connected on a deep route to put them up
35-33 in a seesaw battle. The Falcons received the kick-off and returned
the ball to about mid-field. After a pass to tight end Clark Richards
placed the ball at the Garner 42 yard line, 7 seconds remained in regulation.
The Falcons spread the field and quarterback Renard Edwards lofted a deep
ball that went in and out of the hands of a Garner defensive back, stopping
the clock and giving the Falcons a final shot with 2 seconds remaining.
The Falcons spread the field for their final attempt and Edwards sent
another deep ball to about the five yard line. Two Garner defensive backs
converged on the ball and as it looked as though the Falcons undefeated
run would come to an end, the collision by the two Trojans jarred the
ball out of their hands and into the air where Falcon wide receiver Antonio
Smith was in the right place at the right time and snagged the wobbling
pigskin. Smith sprinted the final five yards for the score and the JV
Falcons took home a 39-35 road victory against the JV Trojans. The Falcons
will look to cap off their undefeated season with a final test against
the JV Person Rockets this upcoming Thursday evening. (updated

Knights
Top Falcons in PAC-6 Match, NHS 28 JHS 14
The Falcons opened the game
strong against a solid Knight team, but ultimately fell short 28-14 as
the final clock ran out. The Falcons opened the game by pouncing on a
Knight fumble on the opening kick-off. The defense stood strong and on
the second drive of the night the Falcons scored on a short pass from
quarterback Eric Weaver to receiver Brad Savage. The Knights responded
on a pass play, which was subsequently followed by a second Falcon touchdown
drive. The half ended with both teams knotted at 14 a piece. In the second
half, the Knights took control as both the Falcon offense and defense
was unable to get anything going. Read more about the game at the Durham
Herald-Sun. (updated 10/22/2004)
JV
Falcons Dominate JV Knights in County Stadium, JHS 24 NHS 2
The JV Falcons traveled to
County Stadium with the intention of moving their overall record to 7-0
and when the dust settled, the Falcons were on the top of the hill. The
Falcons scoring started early and could have finished late, as they left
the field with seconds running out on the Knight two yard line. The Falcons
quarterback, Renard Edwards contributed to two scores, both on quarterback
option keepers. In addition, place kicker Jay Marko also booted a 28 yarder
through the uprights while just missing wide a 34 yarder. The Falcon defense
was intense, stuffing the Knight defense from start to finish. The JV
Falcons will take a one week break from conference play and travel to
Garner for a contest with the Trojans. (updated 10/22/2004)

- #10 Falcons Start off Strong But Succumb to Pirates in Second Half,
RHS 17 JHS 9
The Falcons began a three game
homestand with the pass-happy Riverside Pirates. The Falcons began the
night strong with a first possession score by place kicker Zach Gornto.
The Falcons' defense immediately got the ball back for the offense with
a first play interception by safety Josh Gornto. The Falcons then marched
the ball down for an Antwaune Mims bolt to the endzone. From that point
forward the Falcon defense stayed strong until the second half where the
Pirates air-attack capitalized on a few big plays to take the lead. The
Falcons will take on their third conference opponent this upcoming Friday
as the Northern Knights come to Jordan Homecoming 2004. Read more about
the game at the Durham

N&O
- #6, AP - #14 Falcons Tripped Up by Inspired Tigers, CHHS 12 JHS 11
The Falcons visited Chapel
Hill for their first conference game of the season and left with their
second defeat of the season. The Tigers capitalized on an early Falcon
turnover to take an early touchdown lead. From that point forward, the
Falcon defense was solid, yielding a field goal throughout the remainder
of the game, although being pushed up against their own goal line on a
number of occasions due to poor field position. The Falcon offense lost
starting running back Shequan Wiggins during their second drive as Wiggins
broke a 41 yard scamper. From that point forward the offense moved the
ball inconsistently and largely due to great defensive play by the Falcon
squad was able to punch in a two yard score late in the game to take an
11 to 7 lead. A subsequent safety and field goal lifted the Tigers over
the Falcons for a 12 to 11 victory. The Falcons will look to rebound next
week as they face Riverside at Claude Curry Stadium. Read more about the
game at the Durham
Herald-Sun or N&O.

JV
Falcons Take to Flight Against Tigers, JHS 35 CHHS 14
The junior varsity Falcons
took to the air behind the arm of quarterback Eric Weaver and connected
on four occasions to place 28 points on the board and ultimately defeat
the visiting JV Tiger squad 35 - 14. The big connection of the night was
Weaver to wide receiver Antonio Smith with three of the four touchdown
strikes. Additionally, Weaver connected with tight end Clark Richards
for a score. The running game also produced yardage as Arthur Affleck
rushed for a score, while Delson McAdams also broke a long run for a touchdown
that was subsequently called back on a penalty. The defense was highlighted
by Arthur Affleck's interception. (updated 10/13/2004)

Up the middle or on the edge,
it didn't matter, as long as Shequan Wiggins touched the ball and powered
through the line of scrimmage and behind the Jordan offensive line and
his lead back. Wiggins was the pace setter on offense as he racked up
186 yards on 25 carries (7.44 yards per carry) while entering the endzone
twice. The Falcon ground game piled up over 320 yards, with Mims, Matthews,
Thornton, Clark, Rucker and Rogers combining with Wiggins to cap a solid
night carrying the ball. Through the air, quarterbacks Brad Savage and
CJ Rogers connected on 8 of 14 for 63 yards. The defense yielded less
than 30 yards of total offense until late in the game when TJ Lee of Enloe
broke loose for a 95 yard TD scamper for the Eagles only score of the
evening. With Friday night's performance the Jordan Defense moved to number
10 in the state, allowing only 7.7 points a game. Read more about the

The JV Falcons continued their
winning ways with a 47-6 home victory against the JV Enloe Eagles. The
Falcons attacked on the offensive side of the ball on both the ground
and through the air. Quarterback Eric Weaver connected twice in the endzone
on touchdown strikes to Derrick Yancey and Taylor McAlister. On the ground,
strong performances were put in by Arthur Affleck, Delson McAdams and
Clifton White. Defensively, the Falcons continued to thwart the success
of opposing offenses. The Eagles fared no better and ended the game with
minimal yardage and only one score. The JV Falcons will continue their

evening at 6:00 PM. (updated 10/03/2004)

D-E-F-E-N-S-E!! That is all
that needed to be said on Thursday evening, as the Falcon Defensive Unit,
provided a bit of "Bull City Lockdown" on our neighbors to the
east. Aside from a single drive late in the second half, where penalties
helped the cause, the Falcons' defense obliterated the Leesville offense,
allowing only 13 total yards in the first half and a total of 105 yards
for the entire game. The defense amassed four sacks, including one by
Antwaune Mims. Offensively, it was a whole other matter...The Falcons'
offense moved the ball consistently, but terminated a number of their
drives due to costly penalties, subsequent to large offensive gains. In
the end, Shequan Wiggins led the ground game with another 118 yard game,
as Steven Matthews (1 TD), Antwaune Mims, Andrew Blaylock (1 TD) and Stephen
Thornton also added yards on the ground. Blaylock also ended with 92 yards
through the air and 1 TD to Kinney Rucker. Robert Bumgarner, Branden Reid,
Brad Savage and Antwaune Mims also contributed with receptions. Read more

JV is all Business in 40-7 Thrashing of Leesville Road JV
The Falcons swooped into Raleigh
and left with a 4-0 non-conference record as they defeated the Pride of
Leesville Road 40-7. The defense set the stage for the Jordan offense
with multiple interceptions, including a long return for a touchdown by
Delson McAdams. Offensively, the Falcons capitalized by air and land with
quarterback Eric Weaver connecting with Antonio Smith for a long touchdown
throw and running back Arthur Affleck; sprinting, jumping, juking and
ultimately accelerating away from the Pride for a touchdown. The Falcons
will return to Claude Curry Stadium next Thursday to take on the Eagles
of Enloe High School. (updated 9/23/2004)

Githens'
Raiders Outlast Tough Vikings from Lowe's Grove
In the third annual Falcon
Classic, the Raiders of Githens Middle School outlasted the Lowe's Grove
Vikings for a 12 to 0 victory. The contest took a one year hiatus from
the confines of Claude Currie Stadium at Jordan HS, but will return in
2005 to pit the two programs against one another. The second touchdown
of the game was picked up through the air in the second half when Raider
quarterback Phillip Love connected with wide receiver Brandon Henderson
for a long touchdown. The Raiders sealed the victory when safety Phillip
Love came down with a late game interception. The Falcon Program wishes
the best of luck to both teams as they complete the remainder of their
2004 season! (updated 9/16/2004)

Falcons Open the Flood Gates Against Wildcats, JHS 69 ECH 0
With
the bad taste of the Jordan/Southern contest still present, the Falcons
unleased an offensive and defensive deluge upon the East Chapel Hill Wildcats.
The Falcon defense made the Wildcat offense disappear, while the Falcon
offensive unit scored on all but one of their offensive series. Duke recruit,
Kinney Rucker, returned the second half opening kick 80 yards for a touchdown,
while Roy Powell snagged an interception in the fourth quarter and returned
it 35 yards for the score. Shequan Wiggins powered the Falcon ground game
that amassed over 400 yards with 118 yards and 3 touchdowns. Antwaune
Mims added to the ground assault with 100 yards and 2 TDs, one on the
ground and one by air. Steven Matthews, Stephen Clark and Stephen Thornton
also added rushing touchdowns. Andrew Blaylock ended the game 7 of 9 for
109 yards and 1 touchdown passing to Mims. The Falcon defensive unit allowed
less than 100 yards total offense and posted their first shutout of the
year. Read more about the game at the Durham

The JV Falcons continued a
strong start to the 2004 season with a 40-18 victory over the Wildcats
of East Chapel Hill. Both the defense and offense participated in the
scoring effort against the Wildcats. Bryan Williams intercepted a Wildcat
pass and returned it for a touchdown, while also stripping the football
from a Wildcat player and returning it for a score. Antonio Smith hauled
in a TD reception from quarterback Eric Weaver and Delson McAdams scampered

A strong second half comeback
both on the defensive and offensive side of the ball was not enough for
the Falcons to overcome six rough minutes in the first half. The Falcons
fell behind 21-0 after a flurry of scoring over a short time period in
the second quarter by the Spartans. The Falcons regrouped at halftime
and stifled the Southern offense, forcing two turnovers, while the Jordan
offense took to the air and climbed back in the game, but eventually fell
eight points short. Read more about the game at the Durham

The Falcons moved to 2-0 on
the young 2004 season with a 27 to 12 victory over the Hillside Hornets.
The Falcon offensive unit was led by the rushing efforts of Shequan Wiggins
(17 carries for 112 yards, 2 receptions for 35 yards, 1 TD
rushing) and Steven Matthews (1 TD rushing and 1 TD on punt block). Matthews
opened the scoring with a 3 yard plunge in the first half, while Shequan
Wiggins sealed the victory with a Roger Craig-esque run on 4th and 1 that
turned into a 30 plus yard rushing touchdown. Andrew Blaylock hit on 70%
of his attempts and ended the game with 86 yards through the air. The
Jordan Defense put in another top-notch performance yielding a score near
the end of the first half as well as a late score in the 4th quarter with
the game at 27-6. Senior Zach Gornto added to the point total with 31
and 35 yard field goals while just missing on 48 and 50 yard attempts.

The Jordan Junior Varsity team
took to the field for the first time last night and ran off 41 unanswered
points in the first half before liberally substituting throughout the
second half. The Falcons began the scoring with a pass over the middle
from Eric Weaver to Antonio Smith for an early TD. From that point forward,
the Falcon offensive line cleared the way for Delson McAdams (3 TDs),
Arthur Affleck (2 TDs) and Brian Burnette as they continued to pound it
out up the middle and on the edges of the Hornet defense. The Falcon defense,
taking a page from the varsity performance against Eastern Randolph, didn't
give up its first score until late in the fourth quarter. The defense
was led by Armin Melikian, Henry McLean, Brandon Roberts and Delson McAdams
(1 INT). The JV Falcons will take to the field next Thursday at 6 PM in

Shine at Shrine Bowl Combine
The Jordan Falcons were out
in force at the second of five Shrine Bowl Combines held this past Saturday
at Ragsdale HS. The Shrine Bowl Combines are held each year throughout
the state by the Shrine Bowl coaching staff to evaluate specifically the
talent within the rising senior class. Information gathered at the combines
as well as through game tape provide information for the staff in selecting
a roster for the annual NC/SC Shrine Bowl, typically held a week after
the NC state championship games.
The participants are tested
in the 40 yard dash, 20 yard pro agility, vertical and number of reps
benched at specific weights. They are also weighed and their height's
measured. At the conclusion of testing, each position works individually
with their respective Shrine Bowl assistant.
Rising seniors, Kyle Daye,
Alex Jackson, Brad Savage, Rodney Nelson, and Shequan Wiggins, as well
as, rising juniors, Andrew Blaylock, Josh Gornto, Siddaq Haynes, Myreon
Sutton, and Antwaune Mims participated in the Ragsdale Combine.
All of the rising seniors shined
in both the testing and individual evaulation areas. Kyle Daye benched
225 lbs. 18 times, second only to an OL/DL man from Carver HS who put
up 225, 19 times. Kyle also shined in the pro agility and 40 yard dash.
Shequan Wiggins, measured in just under six feet at running back and showed
his exceptional ability to transistion laterally with an impressive 4.21
second 20 yard shuttle. Alex Jackson produced a sub 4.5 forty yard dash
time. Both Brad Savage and Rodney Nelson brought a physical attitude to
the one-on-one sections of the combine. Nelson, at cornerback, came close
to picking a pass off and Savage, at wide receiver, shedded the press
coverage and took the skinny post for the score.
The rising juniors also shined
both in the testing elements and individual work. For those that return
next year, they'll have a year of experience that will prepare them for
the 2005 combines. (updated 5/2/2004) | Return
