Combine season
is in full swing for the 2008 season and there will be a number of combines
in the state of North Carolina as well as in neighboring states this spring
and early summer. Coach Starkey will be handling the primary point on
information concerning combines and it is highly encouraged that if you
have questions about individual combines or the combine process in general
that you contact him for additional information. If you are unable to
get in contact with Coach Starkey, Coach Luck will also be able to help
out with information about the events or assist you in getting in contact
with Coach Starkey.

Visit the NCAA
Clearinghouse Site for the most comprehensive explanation of the college
recruiting process. Much of the information that you'll eventually be
able to find on this site will have come directly from the NCAA's site.
If you have general questions concerning the recruiting process feel free
to contact Coach Luck at 919-599-4936.
Visit the Academic
Support page to learn more information about the SAT and ACT standardized
tests.
In determining
eligibility for Division I and II athletics each student-athlete must
be cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse process is based
on academic performance both in the classroom as well as in a standardized
testing situation (SAT or ACT). Specific course requirements are necessary
for consideration in determining each student-athletes' CORE GPA. The
clearinghouse website listed earlier provides detailed information concerning
the process, but for a brief overview...
Currently Jordan's
school code is = 341060. This code is needed while looking through
the NCAA clearinghouse site to find additional information about the core
courses that are offered at Jordan High School (NCAA Form 48H).
The sliding scale associated
with the new rule may be viewed on the following page, Sliding
Scale for Core GPA/Test Score Index
Student-athletes interested
in attending a Division II college or university will be under slightly
different constraints for meeting NCAA initial eligibility.
In short the requirements as
listed by the NCAA are as follows:
- Satisfy high school graduation
requirements
- have a grade-point average
of 2.000 in 14 core courses; and
- must achieve a 68 (sum of
scores on the four individual tests) on the ACT, or an 820 on the SAT
The 14-Core course Rule for
Division II athletics:
14 Core Courses include...
3 year of English
2 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher)
2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high
school)
2 years of additional courses in English, mathematics or natural/physical
science
2 years of social science
3 additional academic courses in any of the above areas, or foreign
language, philosphy or nondoctrinal religion
Partial Qualifier and Non-Qualifier
information for Division II may be obtained from the NCAA Clearinghouse
site.
